Information Services Procurement for Web Engineering
The World Wide Web is a public information system where all kinds of institutions and companies - like communities, airlines, universities - publish information. It provides a fascinating world wide marketplace where, among other things, books, music, software may be ordered using credit cards. Advertising on the web is common, most enterprises have already established at least a presence on the web.

Nevertheless, questions like:

  • How can the requirements for a web presence be defined?
  • What is the kind of strategy that can be recommended?
  • What are the deliverables that have to be planned for the web service?
arise in association with a web system acquisition or the contracting of a web service.

The planning of web application projects requires that customers and suppliers be guided so that they perform flexible and informed procurement  of web-based Information Systems and related services. Based on a well-defined acquisition process, effective development and implementation is possible; the result will be a successful and user-friendly web application and an effective web service.

The goal of this book is to assist customers and suppliers to achieve their objectives in information systems procurement. The principal target audience intended to be reached consists of managers and marketing personnel of small and medium size enterprises,  who either have just decided to have a presence on the web, will redesign and improve their actual web or Intranet-based application, or contract a web service for the maintenance of their web activities.
