ISPL can be used in any project regarding information services, where there is: - A customer,
- A supplier (external or internal to the organisation),
- A contract (formal or informal) between the customer and the supplier.
An information system as defined in ISPL, is that aspect of the organisation which provides, uses and distributes information including associated organisational resources, i.e. human, technical and financial. It is thus a human system, which may contain computer systems that automate selected elements.
ISPL addresses the acquiring of, or changes to, any such information system. Examples of such projects are:
- Business design of a new or modified information system
(including organisational procedures). - Technical design of a new or modified information system.
- Development of new software.
- Development and installation of a new computer system
(including new application software). - Installation of a package based system.
- Maintenance of application software.
- Re-engineering of application software.
- Analysis of the changes required to an information system.
- Analysis of the changes required to application software.
- Documentation of an existing information system.
ISPL can be used by both the customer organisation and the supplier organisation.
